La Haine (1995)

In this episode, we find ourselves navigating through the aftermath of a riot where hegemony, police brutality, and racism have left their teeth marks in the outskirts of Paris, France in Mathieu Kassovitz's 1995 film, La Haine. We join three young men, Saïd, Vinz, and Hubert, as they await news of their friend's condition, Abdel, who has been hospitalized due to excess force while in police custody. With the streets left in disarray, the local police headquarters vandalized, and the hunt for an officer's missing firearm underway, we watch as the next day unfolds where limits are tested and an important set of questions must be asked: does past hatred justify the existence of newfound hatred? And if so, where does the cycle end?
