Memoria (2021)
While visiting her ill sister in the heart of Bogota, Colombia, a Scottish orchid farmer develops a strange phenomenon where loud banging noises prevent her from getting any sleep at night. Written and directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, this ethereal film effortlessly suspends itself in the space between wakefulness and slumber.
With a standout performance by Tilda Swinton as Jessica, we follow an outsider into a land that feels both foreign and familiar at once. The pangs of horror, anxiety, and loneliness that we experience alongside her character as she navigates her turbulent inner and external world, find release and room to breathe in this meditative exploration of the senses.
As always, thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the discussion.
Where to watch:
In the US, this film is only being shown in theaters in a road-show style film tour.
Outside of the US, it has been sold to MUBI, so keep a look out!
