The year is 1986, the first serial murders in the history of Korea are taking place, and local police detectives are in over their heads. Anyone deemed suspicious enough to commit these heinous acts are rounded up and subjected to police brutality, creating a split between local law enforcement and the community they're supposed to protect.
Another dreary night, the soft patter of rain hits against the windows of the local radio station. A listener writes in to request a song - this isn't the first time the melody has played during a storm. The following day, a body is discovered in a wheat field just outside of town. Modus operandi confirmed - the killer has struck again.
Memories of Murder, Bong Joon-ho's 2003 crime thriller, sheds light on the Hwaseong murders that occured between the years of 1986-1991 in South Korea. A mashup of genres, impeccable pacing, and a standout ensemble, this proves to be one of the most gripping films of the 2000's.

We arrive in Paris, France on an overcast day; there is a sense of loss that fills the air, combined with a sense of escapism and the potential to find ourselves. Soon enough, the streetlights house their familiar glow as day fades to night, but then the tunnel vision starts to kicks in; the music blares as we put our headphones on, and all we can do now is seek out what lies in wait for us in Antonio Campos' 2012 feature film, Simon Killer.
Mourning over his recent breakup, Simon travels abroad to Paris, where he finds comfort in the arms of Victoria, a prostitute in the stages of recovery from a traumatic past. Teeming with free flowing imagery and withheld information, this gritty character study explores every nook and cranny of the dark impulses of one's mind.
The very nature of Simon's interests relate to how visual information is transmitted from the eyes to the visual cortex. What does the world look like through the eyes of another? How do we perceive others and how do they perceive us? Better yet, how do we view ourselves in the world we inhabit?

"Sleep well in your beds. 'Cause if this thing comes true, there ain't gonna be any more." This week, we venture to LaGrange, Ohio where a series of apocalyptic visions casts a layer of fear, neuroticism, and anxiety in the mind of a young husband and father in Jeff Nichols' 2011 US feature, Take Shelter. Bordering a near hallucinatory experience, we discuss the dynamics that fracture and fold between Curtis, his family, and the community that makes up their small, Midwestern town. There's a storm coming. Will you be ready when it hits?

In this episode, we find ourselves navigating through the aftermath of a riot where hegemony, police brutality, and racism have left their teeth marks in the outskirts of Paris, France in Mathieu Kassovitz's 1995 film, La Haine. We join three young men, Saïd, Vinz, and Hubert, as they await news of their friend's condition, Abdel, who has been hospitalized due to excess force while in police custody. With the streets left in disarray, the local police headquarters vandalized, and the hunt for an officer's missing firearm underway, we watch as the next day unfolds where limits are tested and an important set of questions must be asked: does past hatred justify the existence of newfound hatred? And if so, where does the cycle end?
